BYD Sealion 7: The Premium Electric SUV Making Waves!

At a glance honestly BYD Sealion 7 is a handsome car and it looks distinctive. It does not look copied or inspired from European car, its originally designed with its own character. From front the BYD Sealion 7 actually has a strong resemblance to a Sealion! Especially the bumper dimples gives a feeling of smiling Sealion! The overall design of the BYD Sealion 7 is a crossover with well balanced proportions. At the rear the BYD Sealion 7 have water droplet inspired tail lamps which reflects design inspiration from the nature at the same time gives feeling of water doplets spreading away at high speeds. The best thing I liked about the BYD Sealion 7 is more on curves rather than edgy and sharp lines that most of other car manufacturers are following these days. After all the design of the BYD Sealion 7 was headed by Mr. Wolfgang Egger know for his master pieces of automotive like Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, Audi E-Tron concept to name a few. Overall the BYD Sealion 7 has a great road presence due to its distinctive design and sheer size of 4.8 m X 1.9 m x 1.6 m (LxWxH). I think you will also agree that the cars with curve designs are age less designs!

Interiors

The BYD Sealion 7 is way ahead of its competion in terms of roominess even the Top Gear UK agrees that! The moment you enter the BYD Sealion 7, you get all black interiors ( Tahiti Blue only for Top Variant) and ventilated seats stitched with Nappa leather. What other catches your attention inside is the big 15.3 inch central touch screen which can be rotated. Downside of this is that there are physical buttons for air conditioner. Additionaly the driver display can provide enough information about the car. Besides this the huge panaromic sunroof adds speciousness and looks cool on BYD Sealion 7. Rear seats are also quite comfortable and they are also ventilated and can be controlled electronically. The BYD Sealion 7 is having plenty of storage spaces around 58 liters thanks to its electrical vehicle layout. At the back the standard boot capacity of BYD Sealion 7 is 520 liters with possibility to expand it to 1789 liters by folding the rear seats.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the BYD Sealion 7 has some serious numbers. The top variant of BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with dual motors capable of producing 523 bhp and 690 Nm torque. The base variant is capable of producing 308 bhp and 380 Nm torque. The top variant of BYD Sealion 7 can go from 0 to 100 kmph under 4.5 seconds! Thanks to the BYD's blade battery technology the BYD Sealion 7 is capable of covering 542 kms on a single charge. Surprsingly these numbers seems to be nice however Top Gear UK said that its inefficient in terms of retaining the charge and not so fun to drive as its competitors. The BYD Sealion 7 is capable of achieving the topspeed of 214 kmph, in real world conditions its more than enough. Another interesting fact about the BYD Sealion 7 is that the electric motors can revolve at the rate of 23000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute). The BYD Sealion 7 has battery pack of 82.5 kWh.

Features and Safety

The BYD Sealion 7 is loaded with features and ample of safety features that are offered standard across the 3 variants. 11 Air bags, 360 degree camera, Front and rear parking sensors, Level 2 ADAS , cross traffic alert are to name a few. The BYD Sealion 7 is not yet tested for the NCAP safety rating however we can expect better performance in these tests, considering amount of safety features and built quality. Most highlighting feature is the advanced suspension system, allowing one to have smooth ride and better control thanks to the Frequency Selective Damping (FSD). The all wheel drive (AWD) variant of BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with Intelligent Torque Active Control (iTAC) system, distributing torque to the wheels automatically as per road conditions for better performance. Besides this one can access the car remotely via BYD connectity app. BYD has scrapped the need of physical key and one can unlock the BYD Sealion 7 with NFC enabled card or via BYD App over the phone. Thats too futuristic yet unusual feature to have these days. Additionally like the BYD Dolphin one can use the BYD Sealion 7 as a power generator while you are outside or camping. BYD calls this feature Vehicle 2 Load (V2L), making the BYD Sealion 7 as a reliable power source.

Pricing and Availability

The BYD Sealion 7 is currently available on sell in China, Hong Kong, Nepal, Mauritious, Germany, Netherlands, UK and India. The pricing of the BYD Sealion 7 is most interesting considering its competition and features that it offers. The pricing of BYD cars is almost similar across the globe, but import duties might change this pring game in future.

Summary

Overall the BYD Sealion 7 is a great looking crossover electric SUV with specious interiors and decent range.
